Frequently Asked Questions

NFTPhotographers.xyz is a website created by Johan Lolos (lebackpacker). Its purpose is to connect photographers from the NFT space with each other, and to allow collectors interested in #NFTPhotography to find new talents more easily.

The window for applications is now closed. It will reopen again during Q2, when our v2 will be ready.

Last January 2022, a curation team made of 30 photographers went through all applications received, and blindly selected a batch of 50-200 photographers, based on the art only.

After this, another window for new applications will be announced on Twitter and Discord. Make sure to follow us there.

All 109 photographers who have been successfully whitelisted from the first round of applications have been contacted.

If you haven't received any email, it means you didn't get selected.

Unfortunately you can't.

Please apply later when you have minted your first NFT.

You sure can, as long as your NFTs are minted in one of the blockchains below:

Ethereum, Tezos, Solana, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, xDAI Chain.

If you don't have any NFT minted on the ETH blockchain, but you still have an ETH address, we ask you to use that address in the ETH address field (which is mandatory). This will generate a link to the Etherscan of your address.

If you don't have any ETH address, then please add the address you use on the blockchain where you have your NFTs minted, but the generated link will not work (since it'll be an Etherscan link).

Only the fields with a (*) are mandatory. All other fields are optional, but we strongly recommend you to fill in as many fields as possible and to go in as many details as possible when completing your profile.

You can refer to our best practice guide on Discord to know how to best fill in all the fields.

This is a mandatory field, as it allows everyone to make sure you are not impersonating any photographer by creating a fake account and a fake profile.

Your ETH address is public. When you mint an NFT, those NFTs are linked to your public ETH address. We ask you to add your ETH address for traceability and security reasons.

It is recommended to upload files of 2560px wide, with a 72dpi resolution.
If you can, please export your images for the web. This will create files much lower than 3MB.

You will receive an email if you've been successfully whitelisted.

The website launched with ~60 photographers who have been selected by Johan, from those who showed interest in becoming a beta tester before launch.

After the first window for applications closes on New Year's Eve, there will be a further 50-200 new photographers who will be whitelisted, bringing the first total of photographers featured on the website to max. 260.

Over the next few months, we might end up whitelisting 500 photographers or more, depending on how many applications we receive, and how many talented photographers we need to feature on our website.

After each window for applications closes, a curation team made of 5-10 photographers will go through all applications received, blindly selecting a batch of photographers based solely on the art.

That means that the only thing the curation team will look at is the quality of the art of each photographer, and more specifically the quality of the 9 images uploaded on the profile.

We will not take into consideration the amount of followers one has, nor will we look to the quantity of sales or who their collectors are.

Of course, judging art isn't something objective, and will never be. Though, by having a team of 5-10 photographers trained to see a lot of images, we believe this will be the closest thing to an objective curation.

If you haven't been accepted, it doesn't mean that you're a bad photographer. It just means that not a majority of the curation team connected with your art. Feel free to reapply again at another time.

We will open new windows for applications every month or two, and this will be announced on Twitter and Discord. Make sure to follow us there.

Originally, the idea was to open the platform to every single NFT Photographer.

Quickly we realized this wouldn't be a long term viable option.

Why?
1) First, because it will not help anyone to have a website featuring thousands of photographers.
The reason why this website was created in the first place was to have a platform that doesn't have all the noise found on Twitter.
Having all the NFT Photographers featured here would just be another noisy and messy place.

2) Second, we think that one thing that #NFTPhoto space misses a lot, is curation.
With this website, we wanted to give collectors the opportunity to browse through a highly curated list of photographers, including some of the best talents found in this space.

3) Finally, after talking to a lot of collectors, and asking them whether they'd rather see this platform open to everyone, or a curated platform, they all said they'd prefer a curated platform.

While trying to be as inclusive as possible, we also want to offer the photographers we whitelist a feeling of pride.

If this platform was open to absolutely everyone, it will not serve the purpose of the photographers or the collectors. Thus, will not be used.

You sure can.

Just wait until a new window for applications opens, make sure you go through all the fields of your profile, and potentially upload new work, then resubmit it again.

Make sure you follow us on Twitter and Discord to hear about upcoming submission windows.

It definitely is.

While collectors can't create a Collector profile, they can register to the website and create an account.

This will allow them to bookmark their favorite photographers, but also to send direct messages to photographers and leave recommendations.

While we recommend you to add your country and location, it's not mandatory. We totally respect your privacy.

The country field will be used for collectors to filter photographers based on the country they live in.

The location field will allow you to be seen on the Map search feature, which is an awesome way for photographers to connect locally with each other.

No you don't, since this is not a web3 website (yet).

All information added to your profile, you will add manually.

No connection to any crypto wallet is required.

You can also join the #NFTPhotography conversation on Discord and connect with even more photographers there
